Gold Lightning McQueen – New Disney Store Chase

The Disney Store keeps releasing these non-canon versions of the Cars 2 cars. And we seriously cannot pass these up. The newest one is Gold Lightning McQueen. The paint job is very similar to the Fabrizio car that we reviewed a couple weeks ago.

The extra-shiny golden-orange paint job is a nice compliment to the flame-colored decals that cover Lightning McQueen from front-to-back.

Here he is on the base that the Disney Store cars come with.  This one only says “Lightning McQueen”.  There’s no mention of his new golden paint job.

Pics – Hot Rod Lightning McQueen & Fabrizio

As promised, here are some detailed pics of the new Chase Hot Rod Lightning McQueen and Fabrizio from the Disney Store. These ones are 1:43 scale (bigger than the 1:55 scale that Mattel produces).

Every time we show someone this car, they say “I don’t remember him from the movie”.  well… here he is.  Proof that Mattel didn’t just make this guy up.

Disney Pixar Cars – New Cars for Christmas!

As usual, it was a “Cars” Christmas at our house this year. Check out Dawson’s video review of all his new “Cars” that he got for Christmas!

And as promised, here are some nice photos of his new Cars:

Mater Hawk - Front Angle

Mater Hawk – Front Angle

Mater Hawk is stunning!  The detail is top-notch.  He’s a great match for the Lightning McQueen Hawk car that we reviewed back in November.

Mater Hawk - Profile

As is always the case with the Mater cars, he’s a good mix of plastic and diecast.

He still has the “A113” license plate!

Aviator Mater - Front

Aviator Mater is going down as one of our all-time favorite cars.  From top to bottom, this thing is phenomenal.  The propeller in the back moves nicely and the goggles in the front give him that real goofy Mater face.

Burnt Autonaut Lightning McQueen isn’t too different from the original (non-burnt) version, but the expression on the face is priceless.

Don Crumlin is technically a bad guy, but he doesn’t look too intimidating with those sad eyes.

Dawson calls him “Purple Grem”.  I can see why.

In the package, the flag is not attached.  It’s a separate piece that you have to plug in, but once it’s in there, it appears to be pretty snug.

The details here are so nice that at first glance, this looks like a real car.

We’re excited to start off the new year with some new Cars. Since Christmas we’ve already picked up a few more. Plus, Dawson got some other toys that he’s excited to share with everyone in the coming weeks. Make sure you check out his YouTube Channel and subscribe. As always, thanks for visiting. And if you have time, leave Dawson a comment below and let him know what you think.

Cars: Tokyo Mater and Dragon Lightning McQueen

Dragon Lightning McQueen with Tokyo Mater

Dragon Lightning McQueen with Tokyo Mater

Tokyo Mater and Dragon Lightning McQueen are two of our favorites! These cars were featured in the “Tokyo Mater” short.  If you haven’t seen it, you have to check it out.  Low-quality clips are available on YouTube, but we highly recommend picking up Mater’s Tall Tales on Blu-Ray and DVD. This video has the first 9 Mater Tales (also called “Cars Toons”) and is a great addition to your video library.

When the Disney Channel premiered “Tokyo Mater”, we DVR’d it.  And it stayed on our DVR for a long time.  Dawson must’ve watched it at least once  a day for a good month solid.  We were anxiously awaiting the release of these die cast cars.  There was a whole series of “Tokyo Mater” die cast cars as well as from other Mater Tales.  These are some of our favorites, as the Cars tend to be a little more “extreme” (especially the ones from “Tokyo Mater”).

Be on the lookout for more Mater Tales cars to be posted.  We figured we’d kick of the series with our favorites.  Here are some more photos of these ones:

Cars Micro Drifters

The Cars Micro Drifters (which premiered that SDCC this year) have officially made it onto the store shelves and into our collection.

Disney Pixar Cars Micro Drifters: Gold Lightning McQueen

Gold Lightning McQueen – with other Micro Drifters

While there were a good 4+ different packs at the store, we opted for these two, which featured all “Cars 2” characters (including a special Gold Lightning McQueen).  The other cases featured race cars from the first “Cars” movie (Chick Hicks, Clutch Aid, Octane Gain, etc.).

Disney Pixar Cars - Micro Drifters

Micro Drifters – packaging

In the commercial for the Micro Drifters, it shows the cars speeding down ramps, jumping from one to another.  So (of course) we had to put it to the test.  Here is Dawson’s YouTube debut, showing off his new Micro Drifters in action:

As you see in the video, the Cars don’t always stay upright, often times flipping over when jumping over gaps.  But Dawson didn’t mind, as his favorite part was trying to make them flip off the ramps and “crash”.

With these miniature speed machines measuring slightly smaller than a Quarter, not a single detail was missed.  Check out these close-ups of Grem (Dad’s favorite):

Before buying these, you should know that the wheels on these cars do not move.  Instead, there is a weighted ball in the bottom that (1) allows the cars to roll quickly and (2) gets the cars to (almost always) face forward when in motion.

Disney Pixar Cars Micro Drifters: Grem Bottom Ball

Price point on these (at Target) is $5.99 for a 3-pack.  I’d definitely recommend picking up a couple packs… though I don’t think we’ll collect hundreds of them…. 5 or 10 cars is enough for us.  In addition to Gold Lightning McQueen and Grem, here are the four we picked up:

We’re excited to add these to our Cars collection and will definitely get our use out of them.  After you pick up yours, leave us some feedback.  Let us know if you have any good ramp-buliding tips… ours could’ve used a little work.  🙂

Autonaut Mater & Lightning McQueen

Image

The first series of toys that we started collecting together was Pixar Cars (Dad has a couple collections in the basement).  There are SO MANY different kinds of Cars toys, but our favorites are the 1:55 Diecast Cars, made by Mattel.  These two are from the Cars Toon short called “Moon Mater”.  The detail on these cars is fantastic!  We love that the helmet is clear plastic!  And the rockets on the back are SO COOL!  And Mater’s expression is classic!  …Not sure why Lightning’s eyes have a pink tint to them, but all of the ones on the shelf were like that.

Image

You can see that no details were missed on this Mater.  Three decals on the side include “NASCA” (the Cars-world version of NASA), the American flag, and this great logo for the “Impala XIII Rescue Mission” (aka “Operation Moon Mater”):

These cars are part of a brand new line called “Take Flight”.  These are already popping up in the “Cars” aisle at Toys R Us and Target (our two favorite “Cars” spots).  Since this line is so new, it’s safe to assume that there will be lots more to come!  Happy Toy Hunting!
